Self Referral

Most people do self refer to the centre and staff liaise with medical practitioners after initial assessment and the start of rehabilitation. Please note that this a a private clinic. Currently, we cannot accept NHS referrals.

Please ring the clinic if you want to discuss your specific requirements with a member of staff. Treating vertigo and all forms of balance disorders is complex and a team approach is fundamental to a successful outcome.

Health Professionals

Referrals from GPs, other medical or technical personnel are accepted. The initial appointment will be a triaging appointment where a decision will be made as to the complexity of the case. A simple physiotherapy regimen might be enough for some.

However, the majority may be complex cases where they will be assessed in detail by the consultant and a management plan formulated. Following this, a detailed laboratory assessment might be undertaken. This is done to pick up the site and intensity of the problem for dedicated vestibular or other rehabilitation. Some patients will also need a cognitive approach to address the illness cognition or acceptance issue which often plays a crucial role in the overall perception of balance.

Please contact the centre if you want to discuss your specific requirements with a member of staff.

Vertigo & Balance Centre

The Sheffield Vertigo & Balance Centre is a multidisciplinary clinic for diagnosis and management of disorders of the human balance system. The human balance system operates through three peripheral sensors – the eyes, the muscle and joint senses and the ears to enable a subject to orient himself in space.
